O1.

Who provides the books? Do we use hardcover or paperback? Can I send my special edition?

You provide the books to rebind! Some books are limited in how many times I can purchase them. The easiest way to combat this is for you to ship the book to me. You can use either paperback or hardcover to complete a bind! The end result is always hardcover. Special editions can be rebound. Signature tip-ins can be transferred and I can also glue in any signed vellum/printed pages that are separate from your edition.

How do I ship my book? How do I get it back?

I will provide the address to ship the book to. Ship with a provider and shipping method you feel most comfortable with. If you are purchasing a new book to rebind, please feel free to ship from any bookseller directly to the address. I recommend purchasing insurance for any special editions to recover the cost if damaged or lost in shipping. Shipping costs back to you are calculated at the END of your book binding tour because of variations in weight and I ship back priority with insurance.

If I want to track down a specific special edition, how much time do I have?

I generally try to get through these as quick as possible. However, I am a disabled veteran and a perfectionist and these things take time. I’m willing to work with you if you’re trying for something special.

I can’t find the omnibus online! What do I do?

Some books don’t have an omnibus to purchase. I can bind several books together depending on their size. However, not all books come cut to the exact same size and if the book becomes too thick, I cannot fit it under my press. In these situations (the cat & mouse omnibus, for example), I will line up the front and top edges of the book to be perfectly smooth, sacrificing the bottom and the spine (which is hidden mostly from the hardcover). This does not affect your spine and they are perfectly readable. They also display just as stunningly as every other book.

What if you don’t have art for the book I want?

You are able to commission character or cover art with one of our very talented artists. A commission for art is generally around $300 for two characters and a basic to semi-complex background. This also includes designing the character art into cover art and creating a special 1 of 1 design for your book as a thank you for being the first to commission this character art.

Can I commission art for a book that has already been done?

Absolutely! If you're not vibing with the art or scene that has been done already, you are so welcome to commission art for a brand new cover.

Is all art reused, or can I have a 1 of 1 piece of art.

All art is reused, however, I make sure we create a special 1 of 1 edition for you with the art you commissioned, including a tip-in that states it is a 1/1 first edition of the bind. IF you are looking for 1 of 1 art that no one else has, you have two options — you can commission your own art to use and send it in (making sure the artist knows what the art is for), or we can discuss 1 of 1 prices for the art you're looking for.

Are custom end pages included?

If I have art for it, you are welcome to it (some choose to use alt. cover designs as end pages)—I do not charge for printing a custom end page. If I have no end page art for the book in particular, a premium colored end page matching your cover will be used for your bind. You can commission end page art from simple clip art designs to full scenes from the book. Currently the only book with dedicated end page art is the Cat & Mouse Omnibus.

Do you work with AI generated art?

Although the BYNDery started within a binding community where AI was normal, we have since educated ourselves on the unethical practices of generative AI and completely removed any AI artwork from our backlog. We are proud to only source work from human artists and take special care to make sure we are not adding AI work to our rebinds.

What is included in the $225/265 purchase?

A rebind from paperback (or hardcover) to hardcover with a custom basic redesign. Any character art that has been previously commissioned is FREE to use. Ribbon bookmarks are a free add-on by request, as well as a free tip-in with your numbered bind information. All binds also come with a free foil design if you do not want character art.

How many books can I purchase?

There is no limit on how many binds you can order (for now). You’re also allowed to purchase two of each title. One for you and one for a friend. In the spirit of keeping things fair, anyone caught ordering binds to trade or sell before the books are created will be barred from future Book Rush spots.

If I get a customs spot, can I add on more customs? Can I add on premades?

When can I expect my invoice for the extras?

YES and YES! If you want to do three custom books as part of a series, you are absolutely welcome to. If you want to add premade designs onto your order, we can do that as well. The only thing I cannot do is give someone a custom spot when they only purchased a premade one.

I work on weekdays from 9am to 5pm central. If a sale is done outside these hours, I try to make sure automated emails give you directions at the time of purchase. You will hear from me the next business day to answer any questions and help with your order planning.

If you fill out all the forms, your invoice will be sent within 1-2 business days depending on how many spots were opened and claimed.

How long can I expect my order to take?

Each Book Rush is different. Sometimes every order is 1 book each, and sometimes every order is 5 books each. Once I get all the orders in and solidified, I will reach out with your number in line and an estimated timeline. Customs spots generally take longer because we are commissioning with our artists who also do a lot of other work as well. We choose the best artist for the job to fit the themes present in the work, not first available.

How do you choose priority?

Priority goes to customs first, and then premades. Priority in those spots are given to our book box subs. And then it’s just whoever made their purchase first within those categories.

What can I add on?

Do all editions come with foiling?

There are some editions that look better printed and some that look better foiled. Mindf*ck for instance has gorgeous bloody lettering done by our artist. We can foil it if you really want, but it’ll come standard as a printed book.

How do I discuss with you what designs I want?

I provide a form for you to fill out. This form is able to be edited up until the point that I email you that I am starting your books. We can discuss anything via email that you’re unsure of!

Can I see the in-progress designs before committing to the rebind?

If the design was ready, I would be sharing it with you all! Depending on where I am in the progress of the art commission, I may have a sketch to share, however, these are subject to changes and the final design may be different. Purchasing a rebind before design reveal means you are going in blind. I do not offer refunds for custom books due to the nature of the sale.

What if I can’t fill in all the details for the custom bind request?

It’s perfectly okay to not know all the details you want. In this situation, just let me know it’s at my discretion. I read every book I’m commissioned to design to pull all the little fantastic details, so I can make something amazing with it even if you can’t think of something epic. I will notify you of ideas that I think would make a stunning cover and you’ll be updated every step of the way as we approve certain stages in the design.

Does rebinding books infringe on authors’ copyright?

Rebinding is protected under the doctrine of first sale, a protection most countries offer, with the idea that once you buy something, you have the right to customize/fix/modify (as long as integrity is not affected) and sell it. We do not infringe on authors’ copyright by doing this. However, we have a great history with most authors, and when one asks us not to rebind their books, we respect their wishes. Can I order fanfic?

Absolutely not. I know in the past when we were early in our career, we’ve allowed this. However, after speaking to many kind people within the binding, fanfic, and author communities, we have decided that Fan Fiction is meant to be FREE. With that, and to give back for past discretions and try to make amends within the binding community, we give away one fanfic every Book Rush event. We make this completely FREE including material costs and shipping to the lucky person.
